Mini 7 Race Series, Fastest Mini in the World

2022 Season

“I have had over 18 years experience in racing mini’s in many shapes and sizes, and in 2014 myself and my wife set up Jones Racing and competed over the next 6 years with our Mini Space Frame. Getting close to the title on several occasions. In 2019 during COVID I managed to fulfill a lifelong dream of mine and set up a Classic Car Restoration and Body Shop which has gone from strength to strength but helped build the race team, etc. Within the workshop we continue to use Castrol Oils and promote to our customers the usage too.

2022 season was focused on trying to get our Mini Space frame ready for the Mini Festival at Brands Hatch in August competing in the Fastest Mini in the World race during the weekend. However, it became apparent that this was an unrealistic feat to make sure we had a competitive car for the race.

So back in July 2022, together with our main sponsor Andy Shore from Brooksure Commercial Insurance, we decided to purchase a Mini Libre to race in the A Series class within the same race.

We managed to turn the car around and re-sprayed with our distinctive Castrol colours the weekend before we were due to leave. The car was a sound car, purchased off another long standing racing driver within the series. I prepared myself to drive and off we went with our small but mighty Jones Racing Team which included my two sons aged 7 and 10.

The weekend started off strong with me quickly getting grip of the car and we qualified well. Race 1 did well and progressed to second place finish within the class. Race 2 – reverse grid so we started near the back and had a strong start due to the lightweight of the car. I pushed hard and managed to finish a healthy first and with the points from both races meant a great result for us all.

We went on, unbeknown to us to win the Fastest Mini in the World – A Series engine title 2022. The celebration for the whole team and my long suffering wife at home were well deserved.”

2023 Season

“2023 is going to be a different year for us and we have now joined forces with Andy Shore who will share the drive of the Mini Libre during the Mini 7 race series. We plan to attend as many of the 9 races as possible with the car including racing at Thruxton during the BTCC weekend in June which is going to shown on ITV4 and plus travelling to Zandvoort in July.

We will then have our mighty Mini Space Frame ready for the Mini Festival to be held in August at Brands Hatch to compete in the Fastest Mini in the World race. We aim to have both cars out on the circuit during the weekend.”
